Omotesando Tokyo
Omotesando Tokyo….Sometimes referred to as Tokyo’s Champs-Elysees, this
stretch of Harajuku is concentrated along a gorgeous tree-lined avenue filled
stylish brand boutiques, elegant restaurants and cafes, and fancy department
stores, making it a popular weekend destination among Japanese locals and
tourists alike.
In contrast to the youthful, counter-culture vibe of Harajuku, Omotesando is
posh, upscale, and adult, and is an ideal spot for dating, sightseeing, and
people watching.
Omotesando Shopping
With a high concentration of designer brand boutiques and upscale department
stores, it’s no surprise that Omotesando is a favorite shopping destination
among Tokyoites.
Among the many shops and malls found in Omotesando are Louis
Vuitton, Gucci, Zara, the Laforet trendy boutique department store (website mostly in Japanese),
Kiddyland toy store (packed with Hello Kitty
goods), Oriental Bazaar, and many more.
Omotesando Hills
Omotesando Hills is an architectural marvel of a building completed in 2006 that
offers upscale shopping, dining, and living. Designed by renowned architect
Tadao Ando, Omotesando Hills boasts a gorgeous interior filled with European
brand boutiques and upscale restaurants and cafes.
Cat Street
Cat Street is a cool, funky little pedestrian side street that branches off Omotesando-dori and connects
Harajuku with Shibuya. Walk down this street and you’ll find a collection of off-beat shops and some unique food treats as well.
Be sure to check out this little stand, which serves up delicious, creative
concoctions of takoyaki (fried octopus balls). Yum!
You might also see a crowd of people lining up around this cool orange
Volkswagen mini-bus.
Walk around to the back where you’ll find a guy actually
serving up and selling delicious French crepes out of the tiny vehicle!
Just one
of the many unique sights you can expect to see in a day out and about in
Harajuku and Omotesando Tokyo.
